Southeastern Grocers, parent company to Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo supermarkets, has launched a range of CBD products at approximately 150 retail locations in Florida and South Carolina. Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo stores in these areas now offer sixty-five CBD-infused items, including topical oils and ointments, supplements, and pet products from major CBD producers including Medterra, Charlotte’s Web, PlusCBD Oil, and Veritas Farms.
The Jacksonville, Florida-based grocer is a member of the Florida Hemp Council and has said it already is considering expanding its CBD offerings in 2020. Southeastern Grocers operates more than 550 stores across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina under several subsidiaries.
“We are constantly evaluating potential new products that will provide our customers with the most relevant and up-to-date alternative treatment methods,” Andrew Nadin, executive vice president and chief customer officer at Southeastern Grocers, said in a statement.
Although CBD’s popularity remains high, the recent vaping crisis means large retailers must tread carefully when selecting CBD partnerships.
“With the growing mainstream acceptance of CBD-infused items across the United States, we will continue to diligently research additional ways to bring safe, high-quality products that can positively impact our customers’ lives,” Nadin added.
Derek Thomas, vice president of business development at Veritas Farms, is pleased to see his company continue its growth as a brand.
“We are proud to be consistently recognized as a trusted brand by such notable retailers as Winn-Dixie,” Thomas told mg. “Veritas Farms partnership with Southeastern Grocers represents a continuation of Veritas Farms’ successful entrance into chain grocery,” Thomas continued.
“More specifically, our partnership with Southeastern Grocers will grow our footprint in key markets in metropolitan areas such as South Florida, Tampa, Orlando, Charleston, and Columbia—exposing Veritas Farms to new customers.”
According to Thomas, Southeastern Grocers is one of the largest grocers thus far to add CBD products to its retail lineup.
