CHARLOTTE, N.C. Two former NFL players are finding new careers in the CBD industry after football.

Former Carolina Panthers players Steve Smith Sr. and Jonathan Stewart have agreed to partnerships with cbdMD, a CBD producer with products aimed at providing relief and recovery. cbdMD has focused a great deal of its attention on athletes seeking safer alternatives to many dangerous pharmaceutical treatments.

Smith Sr., a wide receiver who may be inducted into the NFL’s Hall of Fame, now operates the Steve Smith Family Foundation, an organization working to promote health, wellness, and the prevention of domestic violence. CBD’s healing potential seems to be a perfect fit for Smith and his foundation.

“For me, this is much more than just a partnership,” Smith Sr. said in a release. “Working with cbdMD has become a family affair, and those closest to me have seen what CBD can do firsthand. Most who’ve followed me know my history in terms of struggling with personal issues. I’m proud to step forward and say that this partnership can be the platform the public needs to educate themselves on the power of CBD.”

Stewart, a running back who played in the NFL for a decade, knows how grueling professional football can be on the body. Most running backs only last a few seasons and either retire or are cut due to burnout, chronic pain, or injuries.

“After the constant contact and injuries my body endured throughout my career in the NFL, cbdMD has been able to help me live a better quality of life during retirement, stay competitive with my golf game, and keep up with my little girl day in and day out,” said Stewart.

cbdMD has been busy partnering with many athletes lately including golfer Bubba Watson and Olympians Lolo Jones and Kerri Walsh Jennings. The company also has signed a sponsorship deal with Big3 basketball, a professional league co-founded by Ice Cube. However, they seemed to be seeking local heroes for their latest deals.

“Being headquartered in North Carolina, we’re honored to partner with arguably, two of the most legendary Panthers of all-time,” said Caryn Dunayer, President of cbdMD. “If their persistence and dedication on the field is any indication of the partnership to come, the potential to educate is limitless.”
