LONGMONT, Colo. – Hemp farmers across Colorado and the country have been super busy wrapping up this year’s first official, federally “legal” hemp harvest before the cold weather comes. This year, their efforts will be recognized by the hemp industry and community at the 6th Annual Hemp Harvest Party hosted by Colorado Hemp Company and the Colorado Hemp Project. This year’s celebration honoring “all things hemp” is taking place at Longmont’s Oskar Blues Brewery – The Oak Room, 1800 Pike Road, on Friday, October 18, 8:00 pm – Midnight.
Colorado is a leading hemp producing state. According to estimates, approximately 87,000 acres of licensed hemp were planted in Colorado in 2019, up from 31,000 acres under license in Colorado in 2018. Vote Hemp, a Washington D.C .-based advocacy group, reported in its 2019 U.S. Hemp Grower License Report that nearly 511,442 acres of hemp were licensed in 34 states this year. Vote Hemp also estimates that only 230,000 acres of hemp were actually planted, of which 115,000 – 138,000 acres were harvested in 2019, due to losses from crop failure, non-compliant crops, and other factors. However, this figure represents a 50% increase over the number of acres of hemp harvested in 2018.
“Hemp farming is hard work with a number of risk factors, so a successful harvest is to be celebrated. Colorado Hemp Company is proud to host this year’s Hemp Harvest Party and honor our local and national hemp farmers during the country’s first federally ‘legal’ harvest. Our goal is to modernize the hemp industry, educate the public and celebrate a plant that is positively impacting the world in so many ways. Humans can use hemp to feed and clothe ourselves, provide medicine, manufacture industrial materials and bioplastics, build houses and so much more,” says Morris Beegle, Founder of the Colorado Hemp Company and Producer of the NoCo Hemp Expo and Southern Hemp Expo.
“The 6th Annual Hemp Harvest Party at Oskar Blues is about community and change, it’s about the farmers, the planet, the environment…and it’s about making a difference – all in the name of hemp,” says Bill Billings, Vice President and co-founder of the Colorado Hemp Project. “We’re proud to co-host this event with the Colorado Hemp Company and look forward to a fun-filled night with the community supporting this powerful plant.”
