COLUMBUS, O.H. Another national retailer has announced plans to offer customers CBD products in its stores.

American Eagle Outfitters, a brand that produces and markets clothing for teens and young adults, is partnering with Green Growth Brands to sell CBD infused topicals, balms, and aromatherapy products. Green Growth will be developing exclusive products for American Eagle.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with American Eagle, a leader in the specialty retail space,” said Green Growth Brands Chief Executive Officer Peter Horvath. “GGB provided the expertise necessary to develop the product formulations and packaging to create a really special line of products.”

Sales are expected to begin in October. American Eagle will sell CBD products in approximately 500 of its physical retail locations. Overall, American Eagle operates close to 1,000 stores. CBD products will also be available through American Eagle online. All CBD products sold will be derived from hemp and will not exceed 0.3 percent THC, which is the threshold for federal industrial hemp classification.

The announcement highlights Green Growth’s building momentum as a dominant CBD producer in the United States. Recently, Green Growth announced a similar deal with American Eagle’s competitor, Abercrombie & Fitch, to sell CBD in 160 of its stores. Green Growth operates several brands under its corporate umbrella including Seventh Sense, which offers CBD products at malls across the U.S.

American Eagle and Abercrombie join other national retailers in deciding to offer CBD in store. CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, GNC, and Vitamin Shoppe already are stocking CBD.

Since passage of the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 (farm bill), which removed industrial hemp from the Drug Enforcement Agency’s list of banned substances, many producers and retailers have felt more confident in entering the CBD market. CBD now allows large retailers to join the growing green rush without taking on the major risks associated with selling THC and cannabis products.
