Humans love things that go boom, but pets–not so much. So, this 4th of July, there’s CBD tinctures to try that may help them keep chill during what could be week-long fireworks shows, due to the sonically challenging holiday’s midweek schedule.

Scientific evidence of the effects of CBD (and hundreds of other cannabis-derived compounds) is hard to come by, however, due to marijuana’s status as a Schedule 1 drug and the resulting federal prohibition on cannabis-derived products.
“I have been surprised by how many pets in my practice have greatly benefited from cannabis and its anxiety-relieving properties,” wrote Dr. Angie Krause, DVM, for her Boulder Holistic Vet blog. “It is very important to note that dogs and cats with anxiety should use cannabis with high levels of CBD. THC, the psychoactive component of the marijuana plant, should be avoided in pets with anxiety as it can worsen symptoms.”
Pet owners should always consult their veterinarian before starting any alternative medicinal regime, but veterinarians are unable to prescribe medical marijuana to their patients.
CBD-infused per formulations are readily available online because they contain CBD from hemp oil, which comes from a cannabis variety low in tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC (less than 0.3 percent), which is the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.
